Travel respiratory therapist managing ventilator at a Montana hospital
The Role

Travel Respiratory Therapist

As a travel respiratory therapist with We Care Staffing, you'll assess and treat patients with cardiopulmonary conditions: managing ventilators and airway support, drawing and interpreting ABGs, delivering aerosol and oxygen therapies, responding to rapid responses and codes, and educating patients on managing chronic conditions like COPD and asthma. Travelers with strong critical-care ventilator skills are among the most requested allied professionals in the country.

Our Montana respiratory therapy contracts cover adult ICU and ER coverage, NICU and pediatric units where credentialed, floor therapy, and night and weekend coverage that facilities struggle to staff internally.

Why MT RTs Earn More

Why Respiratory Therapists Choose Montana

Montana's combination of altitude, a large rural territory, and a small local RT workforce creates uniquely strong travel demand. Regional referral centers in Billings, Missoula, and Great Falls serve huge catchment areas, and the critical-access hospitals between them often have just one or two RT staff positions, so a single vacancy creates a traveler opening.

We Care Staffing's current Montana RT contracts pay up to $2,600 per week on a 12x3 schedule. That number already sits well above the national median ($80,450 per year per BLS May 2024 data), and Montana's living costs outside Bozeman make it stretch further.

Pay & Benefits in Montana

Your weekly package combines a taxable hourly base rate with tax-free housing and meal stipends, available to travelers who maintain a qualifying tax home and duplicate living expenses. Stipend amounts follow federal GSA rates for your assignment city, and your recruiter shows you the realistic net for any contract before you sign.

Montana has a graduated state income tax with a top rate of 5.9%. For benchmarking: Respiratory therapists earn a national median of $80,450 per year per BLS May 2024 data, with 12% projected job growth through 2034, far above the all-occupation average. Travel contracts typically exceed staff equivalents once tax-free stipends are counted, and the figures above give you the floor to negotiate from.

Licensing

Credentials & Licensing in Montana

Montana licenses respiratory care practitioners through the Montana Board of Respiratory Care Practitioners, and you'll need your NBRC credential (RRT strongly preferred) as part of the application. The process is state-specific, not compact, so start it before your contract search and plan for verification timelines. Your recruiter tracks the process alongside you.
