The Role

Travel MRI Technologist

As a travel MRI technologist with We Care Staffing, you'll operate magnetic resonance imaging scanners to produce the diagnostic images radiologists depend on. The work spans patient screening for MRI safety (implants, ferromagnetic objects, contraindications), positioning and coaching patients through exams, selecting and adjusting protocols, administering contrast under protocol, and maintaining image quality standards while keeping the schedule moving.

Our Arizona MRI contracts cover hospital imaging departments, outpatient imaging centers, and specialty settings, with day, evening, night, and weekend coverage needs. Experience across body, neuro, and musculoskeletal imaging makes you more placeable, and your recruiter matches assignments to the systems and scanner platforms you already know.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Operate MRI scanners to produce diagnostic-quality images for radiologists
  • Screen patients for MRI safety: implants, ferromagnetic objects, and contraindications
  • Position and coach patients through exams to minimize motion artifacts
  • Select and adjust imaging protocols based on clinical indication
  • Administer contrast agents under protocol and monitor for reactions
  • Maintain image quality standards while keeping the schedule moving
Requirements

What You'll Need

  • ARRT (MRI) certification; Arizona state certification requirements for imaging professionals vary by modality and are confirmed at offer (see below).
  • ARRT certification in MRI, or ARRT (R) with documented MRI experience, per facility requirements
  • A minimum of 1 year of recent MRI experience (most facilities prefer 2 or more)
  • BLS certification
  • Strong MRI safety knowledge (Zone protocols, screening, implants)
  • Familiarity with PACS and EMR systems, and the flexibility to learn new platforms quickly

Why AZ MRI Techs Earn More

Why MRI Techs Choose Arizona

Phoenix is one of the country's busiest imaging markets per capita: a fast-growing population, a winter influx of older seasonal residents, and major neuro and oncology programs at Barrow and Mayo all feed MRI schedules that run nights and weekends.

We Care Staffing's current Arizona MRI contracts pay up to $2,700 per week on a 12x3 schedule with day and night shifts, well above what the national median for MRI technologists ($88,180 per year per BLS May 2024 data) works out to weekly, before stipends are even counted.

Pay & Benefits in Arizona

Weekly pay on this contract blends taxable wages with tax-free stipends for housing and meals, provided you maintain a qualifying tax home under IRS rules. Because stipend ceilings track GSA per diem rates by location, ask your recruiter for the full package breakdown rather than comparing contracts on the headline number alone.

Arizona has a flat 2.5% state income tax, the lowest flat rate in the US. For benchmarking: MRI technologists earn a national median of $88,180 per year (about $42 per hour) per BLS May 2024 data. Travel contracts typically exceed staff equivalents once tax-free stipends are counted, and the figures above give you the floor to negotiate from.
