Travel respiratory therapist managing ventilator at a Colorado hospital
The Role

Travel Respiratory Therapist

As a travel respiratory therapist with We Care Staffing, you'll assess and treat patients with cardiopulmonary conditions: managing ventilators and airway support, drawing and interpreting ABGs, delivering aerosol and oxygen therapies, responding to rapid responses and codes, and educating patients on managing chronic conditions like COPD and asthma. Travelers with strong critical-care ventilator skills are among the most requested allied professionals in the country.

Our Colorado respiratory therapy contracts cover adult ICU and ER coverage, NICU and pediatric units where credentialed, floor therapy, and night and weekend coverage that facilities struggle to staff internally.

Why CO RTs Earn More

Why Respiratory Therapists Choose Colorado

Altitude makes Colorado a respiratory state by default: at 5,280 feet and up, patients with COPD, sleep apnea, and cardiac comorbidities decompensate faster, and RT departments along the Front Range and in mountain hospitals carry heavier caseloads per bed than the national norm.

We Care Staffing's current Colorado RT contracts pay up to $2,400 per week on a 12x3 schedule with varied shifts. Strong ventilator management and high-flow experience are the fastest tickets to the best assignments.

Pay & Benefits in Colorado

Your weekly package combines a taxable hourly base rate with tax-free housing and meal stipends, available to travelers who maintain a qualifying tax home and duplicate living expenses. Stipend amounts follow federal GSA rates for your assignment city, and your recruiter shows you the realistic net for any contract before you sign.

Colorado has a flat state income tax of about 4.4%. For benchmarking: Respiratory therapists earn a national median of $80,450 per year per BLS May 2024 data, with 12% projected job growth through 2034, far above the all-occupation average. Travel contracts typically exceed staff equivalents once tax-free stipends are counted, and the figures above give you the floor to negotiate from.

Colorado licenses respiratory therapists through DORA, the Department of Regulatory Agencies, built on your NBRC credential (RRT strongly preferred). FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do respiratory therapists make in Colorado?
We Care Staffing's current Colorado respiratory therapist contracts pay up to $2,400 per week on a 12x3 (36-hour) schedule. Travel packages combine taxable hourly pay with tax-free stipends for qualifying travelers, so weekly value typically exceeds staff equivalents.
What is it like working RT at altitude in Colorado?
Busier and more interesting. Lower oxygen saturation at elevation means respiratory patients decompensate faster, high-flow and ventilator management skills get daily use, and you'll see altitude-specific presentations that flatland RTs rarely encounter. Facilities know this and staff accordingly, which is part of why Colorado hires so many travel RTs.
What is a 12x3 schedule?
Three 12-hour shifts per week, totaling 36 hours, the standard full-time hospital schedule. Three days on, four days off.
Does We Care Staffing help with housing in Colorado?
Most travelers take the tax-free housing stipend, which follows GSA rates for your assignment city, and choose their own housing. Our team shares vetted travel housing resources for Denver and the state's other markets.
What shifts are available for respiratory therapist jobs in Colorado?
Current contracts offer Varied shifts on a 12x3 schedule. Night and weekend coverage often carries differentials; ask your recruiter which facilities are paying them.
