Job Description

Clinical Assistant

The Clinical Assistant 2 supports providers in a rural ambulatory care clinic by delivering both clinical and administrative assistance to ensure smooth patient flow and timely access to care across all age groups (infants to elderly).

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare for patient visits by reviewing charts, updating histories, medications, and required forms
  • Obtain and document vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, weight, SpO₂, vision, etc.)
  • Assist providers during exams, procedures, and minor office surgeries
  • Perform clinical tasks within competency, including:
    • Nebulizer treatments, ear lavage, simple dressing changes
    • EKGs, peak flow, oxygen application, DM foot screenings
    • Specimen collection and point-of-care testing (POCT)
  • Set up and clean exam rooms; sterilize and maintain equipment
  • Assist with patient transport, ambulation, and basic care needs
  • Provide patient education and discharge instructions per provider guidance
  • Monitor patient condition and report any changes or urgent concerns
  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Manage supplies, inventory, and ensure clinic readiness
  • Support patient communication including phone calls and appointment coordination

Additional Duties

  • Cross-cover for clinic staff to support patient flow
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement activities
  • Maintain professionalism and comply with clinic policies and dress code

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current BLS certification
  • One of the following:
    • CCMA certification/training OR
    • 1 year experience as Clinical Assistant/CNA/EMT/healthcare role OR
    • Equivalent healthcare or customer service experience (as specified)

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Basic medical terminology and triage awareness
  • Competence with EMR systems and computer documentation
  • Ability to operate basic clinical equipment (BP cuff, EKG, pulse oximeter, etc.)
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
